When did the idea that sex for pleasure (rather than strictly procreation) take root in

Christian history? I'm currently studying for a History course on marriage reformation during the Protestant Reforumation, and something interesting I found was that most Protestant reformers (including Luther) still felt that sexual intercourse should be just for procreation.

In fact, the book says that Martin Bucer was the only prominent reformer that said all sex within marriage was not sinless.

So when in Christianity did the idea that sex that was non-procreative was free of sin take root?

Actually, it's biblical. The bible states, "The marriage bed is undefiled." Meaning: sex within the boundaries of marriage is not a sin. Husbands and wives are also instructed not to withhold sex from one another but to submit to each others desires (and yes, that goes for BOTH spouses.)
