When did ford escorts stop using carburetors?

I saw an ad on craigslist for an escort but it didn't give the year of the vehicle but said it would need a new carburater soon. Doesn't that mean it's extremely old? I had an '88 and it had EFI.
Oh, the ad said it only had 55K on it and is a two door. Price is $550. Is it worth it?
 
I don't think the escort ever had a carburated motor. I think they have always been fuel injected.
 
Any escort isn't worth more than $100. Why don't you look at Honda Accords or Civics. They're much better built.
