for my history of art a level coursework:
I am exploring the differences between artists and artisans and would really like to know the time (e.g. era, etc) in which the work of artisans developed in to 'fine art', i.e. work without a particular function. I know that during the Italian Renaissance art was an ordinary part of everyday life and was used for iconographies, and then during the 18th century a fine line was drawn between art and craft, however if anyone would know any of the earliest examples of when art was created just for art's own sake i would be extremely grateful
