When a transmission goes bad how long until the car stops driving?

I need to know about automatic transmissions
really gameace? cuz my car is still driving. don't answer questions you don't know anything about
ok when I'm putting it in gear it wont immediately go into gear, usually while stopped. then the other day i was driving and it kept alternating between 3rd and 4th gear for a mile!!
 
game is an idiot...they can go right away or last for 10K...ive had slipping bad shifting trannys go for years...others go with no notice...
