Wheel bearing problems, -Ford Explorer?

I just had the front drivers side bearing/hub assembly replaced on my 2000 Ford Explorer.
After picking it up, I immediately noticed a front-end shimmy when turning (more on right turn than left) that is best described as the feeling you get from tires skipping if you drive in 4WD on dry pavement.
A call to the shop gave me an explanation that; "Ford Explorers are notorious for that, -it's the steering rack. They'll do that until they get warmed up."
To which I reply -"Wasn't doing that before!"
The response I get? -"coincidence, nothing to do with the work we performed."
Not satisfied with that answer, I take it on the "highway" to test. Get up to about 70MPH, hit the brakes firmly and get a severe, and sustained front end shudder that rattles my teeth. I recreated that situation one more time, in about five tries through that 70 MPH / braking process.
The other attempts were smooth, but the two times it happened, it was really severe and long lasting.
This truck has never shown any front end issues even remotely close to this, until now, -immediately after the bearing/hub replacement.
I also noticed a cyclical rubbing sound from that wheel that I hadn't heard before.

I won't even mention what this shop charged me for the part, compared to buying it from Autozone
