Whay was the Little Rock Nine important in civil rights history?

·On 5th September 1957 9 black children tried to go to a white school in Little Rock. They were sent home.
·On 23rd September when they tried again, a mob of 1,000 white people said they would lynch them if they went in.
·Only on 25th September did the children go to school-protected by 11,000 government soldiers.
·After a year black children were allowed to go to white schools.
·The events reinforced northern white perceptions about race relations in the south and the unacceptable behaviour of white southerners.

Why was this important in civil rights history. Maybe some detail please.
