I am a keen watcher of football and have been watching the last couple of years the sport go from an contact sport which was great to watch, to a sport where a little bump gets you rubbed out. For those who live in Australia and have actually seen the Lance Franklin bump on Ben Cousins what are your thoughts? Do you think it really warranted a suspension let alone two weeks in a very important time of the season when a loss means the end of the year?
The whole bump was not high and the only time it made contact with Ben Cousins head was as a result of a much larger frame contacting a much smaller player and the force of the bump making Ben Cousins head sling forward a bit and bump his head. It was not Lance Franklin's shoulder hitting Ben Cousins head. In that same game a Richmond player punched Lance Franklin in the face and made his mouth get all bloodied. This was a deliberate high contact and the player got off without even a reprimand. Leigh Montagna deliberately stuck his leg out in an attempt to stop or trip a North Melbourne player which is against the laws in AFL. This offence did not get a second look by the AFL review panel when it was an illegal action on the football field. Why should something like a bump which has been a part of what makes football a contact sport get a top player rubbed out for two weeks? Pretty pathetic if you ask me and they are wrecking the game of football.
Now I've had my 10 cents worth what are your thoughts on the bump and the Lance Franklin incident?
