THE DEATH OF DECEPTION

To be a pumpkin that can't feel
And not a wound that has to heal
Would make me heave a heartfelt sigh
And yet my heart can only die

My princess left me in a dream
Or more a nightmare it would seem
Last eve her carriage lost its wheel
But was that carnage even real?

And maybe I will lose my mind
Should I not wake up soon and find
A slipper lying by my bed
Her body more alive than dead

A coachman rat stands at the place
And then his hand shows me her face
The beauty breathes and kisses me
But alas-----she isn't "C"

Still, who she is doth make me smile
And suddenly we've walked the aisle
That leads us to this happy end
Now you tell me---was this pretend?
