What's your opinion on the author, L. Ron Hubbard?

I know that he's a science fiction writer. I almost bought one of this books, but I remember that because of him and Scientology, lots of crazy things have happened. Plus, I heard that he was a pedophile.

But how are his books? And what do you think of him as a person? I almost bought one of his books called Battlefield Earth.

I try not to let a person's personal life get in the way of enjoying their music / movies / books / whatever (otherwise I wouldn't listen to Michael Jackson and a bunch of other artists if I did) but I can't say that I've ever read one of his books.
 
I think that he is a crazy and dangerous man. I personally wouldn't read anything written by someone that's tried to create a whole entire religion out of science fiction but maybe that's just me.
