What's wrong with my car? It won't start.?

[I haz a stupid question]

My husband thinks it's the ignition. Sometimes it will start, and sometimes it won't. When it doesn't, you turn the key, the dashboard usually lights up and shows that the battery has power, but the engine won't turn over. Yes, I'm turning the key all the way in the ignition, not just to the point the battery comes on. I'm not sure what is causing this. Any ideas.

Check the starter solenoid. This part is usually the culprit for intermitant starts.

My dads car had the same prob, replaced solenoid and it has started every time ever since.

Does it sound like it's trying to start? If so, it's probably a dead starter motor.
