Yesterday I bought two bettas and put them in a divided tank. I've kept bettas before and I never had a problem, but one of them died already. They were very happy and healthy at the pet store, but they started acting really lethargic and unhealthy pretty soon after I got them home. This morning one of them was dead. Now the other one is acting very sick, he keeps trying to go underneath the rocks and he doesn't move very often. He's alive, but he doesn't want to eat. I thought the water might be too cold because our room remains very very cold no matter what we do. I felt the water and it was cold so I took some out and added warmer water and put him by a lamp but it didn't help. What else can I do? What's the matter with him?
I didn't just pour in a bunch of warm water. I added a little bit at a time of slightly warmer water so it would increase slowly. The warmer water made him move around a little more; before that he was just laying on the bottom and now he moves a little bit. Getting a filter and a heater isn't really an option right now because I can't do anything until tomorrow and I'm afraid he'll be dead by then.
And yes, I conditioned the water....I've kept bettas this same way before and they lived for over two years....I don't know what's wrong with these.
