i just got a pioneer after market sterio in place of my non working aftermarket sterio, upon hearing the new sterio everything works besides the fm and am stations, they sounds scratchy and staticky, it works when were parked or when we cover the top of the dashboard, what could be causing this, is it something to do with the antenna? Its a 93 jeep cherokee.

Make sure you antenna cable and connection is good. Sounds like a possible grounding issue. Did you use a chassis ground? (ground from car to radio). There is usually a spot for a ground on the radio. Maybe your antenna cable end is grounding to something?

in our 93 jeep , we discovered that the antenna cable was loose where it connects to the antenna under the hood.

to access it:

open the panel on the outer wall on the passenger side under the dash.

ours would not stay connected so we just taped the connection secure with some electrical tape. works great!
