Hey all.
Anyway, I've been here in New York a little over a week and will be here until mid - late December. I've been doing a lot of walking around, which is something I've enjoyed quite a bit. It's something I rarely get to do back home, as we drive every place. I'm enjoying the exercise.
Now, starting yesterday, I've been having a terrible time catching my breath. I wasn't like this a week ago, so why is it happening now? Yes, I'm overweight, but as I said before, I've never been this winded before in my life. It's scaring me that it's taking me forever to catch my breath when doing something simple, like running up the subway steps or walking fast to the train. I've even done Salsa dancing before and aerobic workouts without feeling I need a paper bag to breathe or something. Seriously, it's, really scaring me. I'm not having chest pains or anything...just can't catch my breath. It takes too long.
The only thing that's different from back home [Virginia] is that I'm around two smokers. My relatives I'm staying with are heavy smokers. I don't smoke and I don't hang around when they do, but the smoke still seeps in here. I'm not very knowledgeable, but could my being exposed to their smoking be the cause of my not being able to catch my breath now? Could I be asthmatic? Anyone else ever had this problem? If I could afford a doctor, what would I ask to have checked out?
Like I said, I'm frightened over this. I've been working on my weight and everything and have lost about 50llbs in all. I have a ways to go, and don't want it to be hindered.
