What's up with girls fighting over guys lately...?

Especially guys who are playing them BOTH and no I'm not basing it on Jerry Springer but it's everywhere... WTF? In ancient times, men used to fight over women, in the animal kingdom men are the ones who chase and fight over females but now things seem to be different?

Is it trying to prove dominance? Are humans turning into hyenas? LOL
