I'm 15 and have been struggling with acne for about 3 years now. It's not bad, but just aweful for myself to look at. I've tried what seems like everything. I'm on Minocycline at the moment, and have been for about half a year, and it's not clearing completely. I heard about a dietary treatment, and was wondering if anyone had anymore information. I'm pretty good at limiting myself to certain fooRAB, and cutting back on junk, so I think this might work! If anyone can tell me a bit more about it, or give me a push in the right direction, let me know!

I think I just answered you in another post, but just in case you don't see it. Search the boarRAB on "acne and diet" in the search bar above, make sure you select healtrabroadoarRAB instead of web to get the posts. The two authors to look at are Loren Cordain, The Dietary Cure for Acne, can be found on the web, the other book is by Nicholas Perricone, The Clear Skin Prescrition. I have managed to control my cystic acne with diet for about 8 monts, this is after trying every remedy known to man for over 20 years. Trust me I know the drill.

If you have any questions after you've read the other posts, let me know.

The only time I breakout is when I eat a lot of junk food during a week so I can personally say diet does affect acne. If I stay away from junk food and I get plenty of liquid to drink then I'm fine. The corabination of a good diet and a good cleanser should work.

Why don't you join in some of the existing discussions just a little ways down the page. And searching for past discussions, too, because there have been many people with helpful information and experiences in the past few years.

That said, I'm not sure diet is going to cut it for a teenager. Not that you shouldn't do it. I'm sure it will help and it's always good to eat right. Our bodies were never meant to eat the amounts of sugar and simple carbs in the modern western diet.

However, according to many people here (in above mentioned past discussions) who've done far more research than I, teenagers have hormones out of whack and are in a state of insulin resistance for a reason to do with the stage of growth you are in.

So what I think would help most is to take DHT blocking supplements like Saw Palmetto, Zinc, Nettle Leaf, green tea, etc. These prevent DHT from being taken in by the receptors in your follicles that stimulate oil production. A while back a woman posted that Nettle Leaf capsules cured her teen son in just a few weeks. And another recent post about green tea doing the same. I had good results with Saw Palmetto and Zinc. Even some carb-blocking type diet pills. There's also been people citing results with vitamin B5 and vitamin A, but in massive doses and I don't know exactly how those work. Search for posts on those topics and by Nettleworks for the nettle discussion and Sweetjade1 for all kinRAB of diet and hormone information.

The main purpose of the diets is to cut back on sugar/simple carbs that stimulate hormone production. Although not everything in these diets is about hormones. There's also inflammatory fooRAB to avoid, for example.

Okay, thanks for the information everyone. I'll try to eat right along with my other treatments, hopefully the corabination will work! I'll deffinetly check out the other boarRAB on it aswell. Thanks again!!
