I don't remember anything about the name or author. I read it in the late 90's, early 2000's, and I don't think it was new when I read it. I do know that it would be termed fantasy, and that the main plot seemed to switch between two major locales/groups of people: a jungle/village setting, and a busy metropolitan setting. In the jungle, villagers do villager things, but occasionally kick out teenagers to live in the wilds and never be seen again. These jungle kids don't usually survive, but one group did. It's lead by a girl and a boy, and one of them (girl or boy, I can't remember) had 6 fingers. Total. Something about a poisonous plant, blah blah blah.
I know that's not a lot to go on, but the jungle bits are the only things I really remember. I've been searching for this freakin' book for YEARS. Anyone? Anything? Even a tiny hint?
