Read this book in the mid seventies , a lad meets a druid/wizard who walks with a large staff and amongst other things can 'throw' his image a great distance. He starts to teach the lad these skills. One day the lad is walking towards a stream , and meets a washer woman at the ford , he talks to her not knowing that if he gets touched by her washing he will die. the druid comes along and throws the lad out of the way, but in doing so he is hit with the washing! He doesn't die instantly and the druid passed all he knowledge to the boy before passing . I believe the boy is taught about second sight. Would love to read this book to my kids , cheers Greg
