I am a soldier in the US Army. I want to get a Delta tattooed on the palm of my hand, but I don't know if Army regulations allow for that. My FLL told me to read Army Regulation 670-1, but that didn't provide any extra info.
The pertinent section of AR670 basically says that an active duty soldier can get a tattoo that is visible above the open collar of the Class A Uniform so long as 1) sexist, racist, or offensive in any way 2) The soldier must have the approval of his/her unit commander or XO (O-5 or above).
So here is the problem: While the palm of my hand is not above the collar of my class As (most of the time anyway), the tattoo would be visible. So do I need to get my Battalion Commander's approval?
My NCOs aren't sure and I'd like to get some additional information before we go bother the BC. So anything you can add would be helpful.
