whats the point of having to take social studies and history?

i HATE social studies!!!! its the borringest crappiest subject ever (next to math :p) and i dont see the point....like if were supposed to leave the past in the past and find the future why are the teachers making us lean this??? its not like its gonna help us in the real world at all so why do you we have to take it???
i asked this question to my socials teacher (during a detention for not doing my homework....) and he just went into lecture mode and started droning on about how we wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for people like martin luther king and marry queen of scots. but i dont think that really matters at all.........i mean like history is history but we shouldnt have to fill are brains with usless information...

any one agree? or can tell me the whole point of this crap class??
 
I agree social studies is stupid. Same with math all I need for math in the real world would be a calculator, some graph paper, and the internet so I could search in how to solve the problem see the steps and just make it out on the graph paper in 5 minutes. But social studies is to help open doors for people and give you more experience before picking a major in college.
