i cant rember much but they were lyk a group of 4 friends i think in kinda of a poor suburb and if one got kick out the house he could just saty at the other 2. the 2 were bros. or at least related. then something happend i think it was a murder and the 2 boys went on the run into the country and dyed their hair with peroxide and the little did it wrong so he had to cut his hair off. and that's all i remember. we had to read it in middle school.
 
i think you might be talking about the book the outsiders, it was about a group of boys in the 1950s called greasers and one of the boys name was pony boy and he had two brothers and the rest of the gang were just some friends who had no where else to go, its also a movie with tom cruise and patrick swayze in it when they were much younger.
