I have a degree (BA Hons) in graphic design 2.1 and completed the CIM Professional Certificate in marketing and have a good set of results for this. I have a little work experience in Marketing but not much and some transferable skills from my studies and other jobs I have had which may/would benefit me in starting in marketing.

I am in the process of looking for my first marketing related role and as the career area is so competitive it is likely to take me quite a while to get a job. I know the usual job hunting routes such as newspapers and recruitment agencies etc. But I am also interested in other ways of finding work such as networking and applying directly to companies/ marketing agencies however I don't know how/who I should target, any advice on a starting point for this?.

Also I am thinking a better option which may get me a job quicker would be to get another job within a company and then try and go for a marketing role once im in OR apply for a job which has transferable skills that would strengthen my chances of getting a marketing role further down the line. What type of jobs would benefit or help me if I was to take this approach?

I am keen to get a new job quite quickly as at the moment I work part time in a role which will not benefit a career in marketing that much.

Any ideas suggestions?
