Economics teaches you the big picture while business teaches you the stuff how individual businesses work. Economists are used by banks and the like to try to predict where the economy is going. And yes, we did predict the crash but no one wanted to listen to us.
Myself, being a good amateur economist and having a daughter with an economics degree, we only lost 2% last year. The business people were happy to drive the economy off a cliff.
You can do well in either field.
My daughter with her degree in economics has a fellowship in DC this fall and is on her way to a doctorate and a position making policy.
