Whats the difference between film & movies?

Does anyone know? because i am confused because i dont know why people say "film" or "movies" i would like to know the difference.

They're the same thing aren't they? We would call them 'films' but Americans would tend to call them 'movies'. No difference I don't think. Tomato, teh-mato. Potato peh-tato!

Thanks, i always thought it was like when you call a classic movie like Godfather a film and you would call Jurassic Park a movie, you know what i mean?.
