same thing.... it like saying u straighten ur hair, then saying u flat iron ur hair.... either way it gets it straight

Same thing and they're called hair straighteners in the UK not flat irons, though that term is sometimes heard from hairdressers etc..

hair straigtener is usually a professional term, so it is a chemical process. where the hair is chemically changed to straight but when it grows back out the regrowth will be what you originally had.
a flat iron, is a tool used to straighten the hair, plug it, heat it and flatten the hair.
that is my understanding

its just diffrent names for the same thing but if your going to get one get the kind what flattens and has a curler in it 2 tools one price and it saves space

"Hair straightener" can mean the same thing as "flat iron", but it can also refer to straightening your hair chemically. Either way, make sure you condition your hair well. You don't want crispy ends!

I was curious about your question and did some research for you-visit www.ciao.co.uk
www.ukhairdressers.com
www.bizrate.co.uk (this is a great site)
You will see that from the pictures hair straighteners and flat irons are classified as the same thing. Some straighteners are long and narrow (good for fine-medium hair) and some are wide plated (good for thick-Afro hair). The rounded barrel of the straighteners will allow you to curl your hair easily if you don't always want the the straight look. I hope this is helpful to you.

Most people use the word hair straightener as an informal name. Flat iron is more used by older generations as a technical phrase. Or, do like me and call it which ever you want.
