What's the difference between a 4 cylinder engine and a 6 in a Ford Escape?

Um, do you mean aside from the obvious? (one has 2 more cylinders than the other)

Well a 4 cylinder is going to be less powerful, and slower, but will get you better gas mileage and cheaper maintenance costs, and cheaper insurance premiums. A 6 cylinder will be more powerful, faster, but get worse gas mileage and cost you more in maintenance and insurance premiums
 
A four cylinder will have less power at 171 HP and 171 lb.-ft. of torque for the 09 then the six cylinder at 240 HP and 223 lb.-ft torque.
