What's the cost to repair or replace 2001 Chevy Metro transmission?

My '01 Chevy Metro's transmission went kaput a while ago. I was wondering if anyone knew how much it would be to either have it repaired or replaced? Also, if anyone can recommend a more low-cost place to get it fixed, that would be great!

I live in the Los Angeles area.
