whats the best way to get off clanzapam ive been take .5mg a day for about 3-4 months now.

I was on them for around 2 months when I started noticing behavioral changes in myself and decided to taper off of them. Like I said, I read that tapering very slowly was the best thing to do. As I said before, I tapered down to 1/8th of a pill before I stopped and I did have a few anxiety attacks. I broke all of my pills into 1/8th and tapered by pill count. I stayed on each lower dose for 4-10 days before dropping a again. Just monitor your body and how you feel and talk to your physician if you have any real concerns. Good Luck.

Everyone is different, but I wouldn't expect bad withdrawals, especially if you do a slow and gradual taper.

It also depenRAB on what you were taking it for. If it was being used to treat anxiety, then the anxiety may come back a little, but still may not be that bad.

If you had been taking 6mg a day, there would certainly be withdrawals, but at .5 a day, I think the discomfort will be minimal. Just take it really slow.

I take clonazepam for my generalized anxiety disorder. I've also taken Xanax, and this is what my psych has told me about weaning off of benzos.

You're taking a VERY low dose at only .5mg a day, and haven't been using it all that long. What my psych suggested, at low dose, is to go down from one tab daily to 1/2 tab daily for two weeks, then 1/2 tab every other day for two weeks, then stop. Do NOT try to quit clonazepam cold turkey, as it can cause seizures.

That said, I'm not a doctor, so if this drug was prescribed to you legally, I would call your doc and ask. This probably doesn't warrant an office visit (though some insist so they can bill for it), but it seems like something that could be answered over the phone.

I don't think you'll have a difficult time with this. Your dose is quite low. Best of luck to you.

Hi

Good post,MovngForwrd. I agree completely.

Take it slow and easy coming off, Josh. I came off Xanax in a long, slow taper. I felt anxiety at times that always seemed to start as a tight knot in my gut. Practicing breathing slow and easy and deep helped me tremendously. I also found that staying busy physically as much as I could helped.

If you find that cutting by 1/2 a tablet is too hard, then make the cuts smaller. When I neared the end of my taper, I was crushing the tabs and measuring out 1/8ths and 1/16ths. As long as progress continues to be made, don't worry about the time frame.

Good luck

Hi Josh - I just finished a taper off of clonazepam a few weeks ago. I was on low dose as well. The only thing I can say is GO SLOW. I took about 6 weeks to taper from 0.5 mg and I still had a few anxiety episodes near or after the end (and I've never had an anxiety attack in my life before). I dropped about 1/8th of a tab every week and towarRAB the end every 2 weeks. Never go cold turkey from Benzos! I hope that helps you out. Good Luck.
