What's the best way to prep for Army BCT?

I leave for Army BCT in a couple of months and I've been working on running, sit-ups and push-ups. I'm having a tough time getting my two miles to the speed that is expected. I've been told that if I don't meet the minimum time (reps for the *ups) that I may not be able to ship out, but get stuck in a "preBCT."
Is this the case? Or are the requirements a guideline for where you should be before leaving BCT?
Also, I would appreciate any tips on physically preparing for BCT.
