What's the best BEGINNER bike to get?

I've been dead set on an '08 GSXR600 for the longest, but other wisdom clicked in today. I really wanna save some money so I know an older year will be better, since I may just possibly drop it anyways. But I'm also trying to get low mileage and something that hasn't been busted down.

So what's the oldest year I should look for without getting a dud?
And what's considered too much mileage?

Also, even though I know I'm pretty set on the GSXR, what's another good year/model bike to get for a beginner? Other insight is welcome and encouraged... this is my FIRST.
 
Are you going to be allowed to ride a bike that big? Beginners are usually kept to 250's here. As for dropping it; there are 2 kinds of riders. Those who have, & those who will. Beginners have very high fatality rates-& Kawas rate very common with them. Anyone can ride fast enough to be dangerous, and many do-some terminally so.
