What's going on with my pontiac g6?

Not all the time but at least twice my in the last month when i get in my car to start it would turn over then cut off it will do this until press on the gas then it stays on. what is this and what do i need to do to fix this problem.
 
It could be the fuel filter. If you have to press on the gas to get the car to stay on, that means that the engine isn't getting enough gas. So, either the fuel filter or pump. I think.
 
Nobody can answer that without a scanner and the car in front of them, I suggest taking the vehicle to a reputable repair facility to have it diag'd by a professional technician.
