I "had" a Toshiba laptop and it was a. may. zing. But.. it crashed, went completely black while I was surfing the Internet. I'm sure it's because I was constantly using it, and was ALWAYS plugged into the outlet with the battery still in, and probably didn't help it was used from Rent-A-Center. Now that I look back on it, I realize how stupid I was, ^.^' Anyways, if your buying a new one, just take good care of it, even if it's not a Toshiba but I absolutely LOVED my Toshiba laptop. It was fast, had plenty of applications, more than enough USB ports, played music and video with ease, and for how often I used it, it's a wonder why it didn't break down sooner. Definitely go with Toshiba. Personally, I would go with HP (which is what I'm using now) or Dell. But Toshiba would be my third choice, then Samsung.
