What's a good way to test a guy to see if he's for real?

I think this guy that's chasing me is a player and I'm one of his toys. What are some things I could do to see if he is really genuine or not?
He can be very sincere, serious and mature and act like he cares about me but most of the time he is smooth with his words and keeps making sexual references. I can't tell if he's for real or not and I don't want to fall for a jerk.

If he tells you he loves you but is also into other girls he is a player.

If you know this for sure, then walk away. If you are unsure, ask him real questions, and see if you get real answers. Ask him what he likes to do, what plans does he have for the future? If he gives you just smooth words like it's going to be alright, then don't give him the time of day again.
