What's a good starting Camera for Photography?

I want to start getting into Photography, mainly just taking pictures of nature and things for pleasure. What is a good, semi-cheap starting camera that will provide nice looking pictures?

Also, what kind of job would I look into for Photography? Thanks
 
I love my two cameras.
My point and shoot is a Canon Powershot. About $250.
My DSLR is a Nikon D40. More expensive. haha.

So it depends on what you want to start with. There are plenty of point and shoots that do much more than point and shoot. Lots of settings, manual focus, etc.
