whats a good program for a mac user to use for HTML writing?

i just got an iBook, and was wondering what program I should use for making websites in HTML. I tried using TextEdit, but when I tried to open it in FireFox, then it showed up as the HTML code.
I did save it as an HTML document, and I'm sure the code is right.

So- what program can I use instead (preferably free :), or how can I fix this?
