What's a good bait so far this fishing season - trout fishing?

Pretty simple question for fishermen/women out there, what's been getting the most trout lately? Don't get me wrong, I know this question will probably get me absolutely nowhere in my future days of fishing this year, but I just want some insight.

I was out fishing for almost eight hours today at a local lake. Pulled in a total of sixteen fish. Twelve that were trout, but only kept five of 'em. I used nightcrawlers and sometimes green colored Powerbait (Powerbait might be PA only...I don't know).

Any tips would be great, I just don't want another day like today.

What? you don't want another day like today! What could be better unless you used dynamite and a net. You found the secret for the day be, glad and rejoice!
