What's a fresh, modern look for my groom?

I am recently engaged, and as I'm working on my wedding plans I've decided that I am not into the whole tuxedo/suit concept completely. I'm looking for a twist on the idea of a classical suit or tux. Any suggestions?

The big modern trend here is the white suit, especially for very thin and tall grooms under 35 or so. It's finely tailored, very closely fit, doesn't contain a lot of buckram or other stiffening so it appears to float, and is often worn with a white shirt and either a white tie or no tie at all - the shirt underneath is open at the neck. I think the original was Armani (and at Armani prices), but knockoffs are showing up too.

Other trends are light grey pinstripe and medium grey business suits worn with a grey or grey-and-blue satin tie. These are almost a new fashioning of the morning suit, which is also coming back itself at morning weddings - yet another modern trend.

People say that "fresh and modern" soon becomes "dated and funny-looking" in the pictures, but I think that all wedding clothing looks dated and funny-looking after a few years. Even the most traditional styles are updated over the years - a 1972 tuxedo doesn't look like a 2009 tuxedo. So why not wear what you want?

forget what you want, what does your fiance want? he will be wearing it, I see so many women moaning that their fiances are telling them what sort of dress to wear but yet its ok for us to dictate what they should wear to their own wedding!

If he wants to wear a tux, then let him. my fiance wanted top hat and tail, whilst i think its a bit old fashioned that was what he dreamt of wearing to his wedding, so he will wear it.

Well, there is a different looking tux that stands out and looks a little more modern. Its a basic black tux, but instead of the black vest and tie with a white shirt, its a white vest and tie with a black shirt. It stands out and makes it look a little more edgy, even rock-starish if you want. You can always spice it up and add red into your colors and have him wear a red shirt.

That all depends on what kind of dress/gown you'll be in.

You don't want to look like so many couples I see lately - the woman all dolled up in heels and her date in ripped jeans and a backwards baseball cap. I know ... that's extreme, but you need balance, so what will you be wearing?

I'd like to be helpful, but I need more information.

:D

P.S. Some of the suggestions below are good, but if you're going to be in something that's all poufy, beaded, sparkly, white, and gorgeous and he's wearing some khakis or jeans or anything casual, you'll regret it forever.

If he goes casual, you really should, too ... or you might consider having his dad or best man work on him.

The white suit and black shirt will make him look like a mobster, tho.

If you really don't want a "suit", then what did you have in mind? And what are you wearing?

:D
