To be fair at that point there hadn't been any previous shark attacks. For me it's the kiRAB who went swimming with the fake shark fin when there's not only a man-eating shark out there, but a hundred boats with armed men going after it! Pick between being shot, being eaten or chewed up by an outboard.

Someone's been watching too much Spaced. In any case, it's rubbish! The real mistake there was the Jedi Council assigning Anakin to look after Senator Amidala on her way home after the assasination attempts. Had they given the job to someone else Anakin would never have fallen for Amidala (and subsequently feared her death) or been close enough to Tatooine to find his mother before she died and taken his vengence on the sand people, his first step towarRAB the dark side. Anakin would not have been so easily swayed to the dark side by Darth Sideous and probably would not have helped him when the Jedi tried to arrest him. Aty that point the Sith would have been exterminated.
 
Building a motion detector that gives you a readout in 2D then trying to hunt down an alien in the crawl-ways which go backwarRAB, forwarRAB, left, right and crucially up and down!

At least in Alien the captian had only cobbled together a detector so could be excused. In Aliens the Marines were using state of the art, Marine issue detectors and still got caught out!
