i was on accutane for a while. good luck, it might be a long road ahead of you! what you can't do:
drink
get preggo
stay out in the sun without sunscreen for too long
get waxed
get a chemical peel/microdermabraisa
kill yourself (for real, if you are getting depressed, see a doctor right away)

i think that covers it. just remeraber the pills make your skin really sensitive so anything that you think may be bad for it, probably is. you will need a good chapstick cause you will have really dry lips. i recommend burts bees or aquafor is the best. drink lots of water and just be patient. one thing you may want to consider though is that accutane pretty much stops all oil production on your skin so afterwarRAB you will be more prone to dry skin instead. invest in a good moisturizer that will be for age prevention because dry skin can mean wrinkly skin.

good luck!

thanks for the info. my doctor told me it would help the little acne i have cause it never goes away with all the stuff they gave me so they put me on this. i wasnt fully sure what to do. but i almost went drinking with a friend. why is it that u cant drink? or even smoke for some people? vitamen A yikkkeess!

I've never heard of not smoking but the reason you can't drink is because the Accutane is processed through the liver, and takes a heavy toll on it. (Thats one of the main reasons for the monthly blood tests). So things that are processed through the liver like alcohol can be very damaging.

It is also good to avoid Tylenol and other Acetaminophen based pain relievers, as they are also processed through the liver.

oh snap i didnt know that. thanks for telling me and all of ur advice. u helped out alot!

My daughter who is going to be 15 in August began Accutane in Septeraber of 2008! Her acne was HORRIBLE! Nothing was helping it. She even had it on her back and we had her on different things over the last couple of years that the dermotologist prescribed, and eventually she said to just go for the Accutane. I was hesistant to put her on it because it is a lot of work....watching what you ingest cause of the Vitamin A, monthly tests for liver function and pregnancy.....BUT....I'm soooo glad I did it because now 8 months later, her skin is BEAUTIFUL!!! She has no acne at all. She does have some redness cause she was at the point that she was starting to scar, but she is still on the Accutane and each month, that redness diminishes. The doctor said that eventually the redness will go away and then after she stops the accutane, supposedly only like 1 percent of people ever have a re-occurance.
