My bf & I have been living in our new apt. for 6 wks. Our apt. is in an old building and directly upstairs from the manager (not the owner)'s apt. Quiet hrs. here are 10 p - 7 a. A couple days after we 1st moved in, the manager came up & introduced himself. He told us how he & his wife can hear us walking around & even came in & demonstrated how walking on the old floor boards made a creaking noise that they can hear. He then said "Don't worry about it, the building is old, I don't want to make you feel like you're walking on eggshells." Next time he came up was to tell us he could hear us walking around at midnite during the wk & how it kept him awake. He asked us what rm we slept in, suggested a bedtime & then tried guilt-tripping us by saying since his rm is directly below ours he might have 2 sleep on the couch or change his rm. Now his new thing is coming up every time we play music on our stereo 2 say he knows the music isn't loud but he can feel the base in his apt.
He suggested moving our speakers & mounting them on the wall, but we don't want 2 do that in case we mess up the wall. He is constantly making us feel like we can't even breathe in case he might hear us. It is making 4 a very uncomfortable situation & we haven't even been here 2 mo.s! There's nothing we can do. He himself has even said it's not our fault & that the building is old. We never make noise after quiet hrs. begin & even 1/2 hr. b4 quiet hrs. begins, he'll come up 2 remind us that in half an hour it'll be quiet hrs.! We play our music in the day time or early evening, mostly on the weekend. We can't help he hears the base. We lower the volume so that we can't even hear it in the next room. I want to listen to my stereo later today & I'm afraid he'll come up complaining again about feeling the base. Any suggestions? We're waiting 2 go 2 the apt. owner about this until we've been here longer & are in good faith, but he's driving us crazy!!
