What would make a fuel pump work at times and not work other times? 2001 Chevy Blazer.?

A month ago, my Chevy Blazer just wouldn't start. It wasn't getting gas (tank was half full), we opened the gas cap and put it back on, then a day later it started.

Ran for a month and now will not start (don't hear the buzz sound for the fuel pump) just like last time.

Will it start again? Is it something besides the fuel pump? Any ideas to help it limp along without replacing a fuel pump (if that's the problem).
