Israel instead of hatred? Somebody must make the first move toward peace, but seeing as Israel is more powerful, if they did, it seems that it would only be seen as "condescending" and would be met with suspicion. Whereas, if Palestinians made the first move, it could only be seen by Israelis as pure and the walls that divide them would be softened considerably.
