Lets say there's a millionaire on trial for a serious felony. He exercises his constitutional right to a jury trial. During the trial, the rich guy takes the stand on his behalf, and says one simple statement:
"This is a very simple case, a case that can not result in conviction for one simple reason. That reason being, if only one of you is to hang this jury, each and every one of you can come to my house for a $10,000 dollar cash reward."
And rich defendant +serious crime = plenty of cameras and microphones stuck in his face while he's leaving the courthouse (Even if he's leaving in police handcuffs). Meaning he'll have the chance to tell the whole world that the offer stands for any future jury pertaining to the case.
Granted that a hung jury is not an acquittal, but when a hung jury occurs it is up the the DA regarding whether or not to go again, and if multiple attempts fail, they tend to give up and drop the charges rather then waste any more budget money on a case their not going to win.
So would that taint the possibility of ever getting a conviction?
