what would be the result of me putting a smaller muffler on my chevy 350 for

passing inspection. ? i want to put a super 44 muffler on my chevy ck but in order to do that i would need to make some modifications that would not allow me to put the stock muffler back on. im concerned about passing emissions as we do have noise reduction laws here in MA. im planing on welding everything but the muffler and clamping that. now im sure i can find a muffler of about the same size as the super 44 off a junked small car and clamp that on if need be but what will that do. will a small muffler reduce the noise for inspection with all the exhaust flow?
 
The problem you are going to run into is if they have noise laws in your area then all it will take is for an officer to hear you going down the road and pull you over and he can still write you a ticket for noise pollution. Then when you goto court they are going to want proof that you changed the muffler, which means that you will have to take it somewhere and pay them to do it. Especially since I can read between the lines and know that you more then likely are talking about punching out the cat.

Then even if you put our muffler back on if the same cop sees you again or if another one (dont think the cops dont talk to one another especially if they see that you have been pulled for noise tickets before) one tickets you you will be out more money ... do a little research and find a exhaust that is legal
