What would be an effective way to write this guy on Facebook?

I've had classes with him over the years, and now school is out but he does go to the same college as me here, but I don't really see him around so my friends said why not write him for the heck of it lol. I don't want to just write "hey you're cute let's hang out" lol. Should I do something that's so straightforward it would come off as entertaining or something kinda funny maybe? What are some suggestions? and nothing corny lol
