fiction, and dealing with history? Here are a few books I've throughly enjoyed:
The Harry Potter series (J. K. Rowling)
Percy Jackson & the Olympians series (Rick Riordan)
Midnighters Trilogy (Scott Westerfeld)
The Uglies series (Scott Westerfeld)
The Jester (James Patterson)
Witch & Wizard (James Patterson)

I've read a lot more but these are my favorites.
