Some of the answers are wrong. You CAN go to jail in a civil matter. I don't know where some are getting their information from. But in your case, the only thing the judge would do is order you to pay in full, with interest, along with fines and court costs what is owed. If you don't pay in a certain amount of time, a lien can be put on your home; when you get your taxes back they will automatically go to the plaintiff; you can have the money taken every month from your work pay(garnished). See if there is something you can do with the person you owe money to. Sit down and have a conversation with them, and explain if you are having problems, etc., and arrange to have some other form of payment(yard work, etc.) Good luck!!
