what will happen to a car (specifically a toyota) if you dont replace a broken cv joint?

my sister just sold a car to her friend and told her that before she drove it places to get the CV joint fixed.she didnt listen to her and drove it to places far away and now there is a lot of front end problems like the battery is dying and the transmission needs to be fixed and she said it was my sisters fault because she did it before she sold it to her. she expects my sister to pay for it. so i was just wondering what could actually happen to a car if you dont fix a broken CV joint.
