what where the housewife's duties in the olden days.... This is for a school paper?

My niece has to write a paper on the duties of a housewife in the olden days. Please help. We need a detailed list of EVERYTHING they did back then please help! her paper is due in 1 week. I don't agree with the assignment but what can you do with a private school!! Sp please help us!
