What were the positives aspects of Ford pardoning Nixon, in your opinion?

What would have been the cost of the trial or a prison sentence that Nixon would have gotten, had he not been pardoned?

I'm having a debate on the topic, and I was just looking for some extra quick facts to have just in case.
