Higher divorce rates as people found they had changd after fighting in the war.
the begining of the welfare state: Health service, benefits.
more women worked to fill the gap pf men who died in the war.
more immigrants form W. indies and Pakistan ETC. came over as well to fill the gap.
hope that helps.

After the second world war Britain was on its knees. The destruction of cities like Hull which for its size was alleged to have been the worst hit by bombing was horrendous. Austerity was the name of the time, rationing of almost every consumable item continued until the late 1950s. Power cuts were an every day occurrence and schools were never closed even though there was no heating at certain times. You were told to bring your overcoat if you had one. Unemployment was rife as soldiers were returning home from the various war zones.
People worked longer hours then they do now and paid much more of their salary in income tax then happens today.

The main effect was one of debt to the US, the economy greatly suffered after the first world war and a lot of negotiating had to take place to alleviate the problem, but the results after the second world war where worse. The UK only finished paying the last of the war loans off in 2006!
